Restaurant Industry to Outpace National Job Growth, Reach Record Sales in 2012

February 3, 2012 - Despite sluggish recovery by the nation's economy, the restaurant industry is projected to expand in 2012. While the industry remains in a modest growth environment, economic indicators are pointing in the right direction for opportunity and succes. Total restaurant industry sales are expected to reach a record high of $632 billion in 2012 - a 3.5 percent increase over 2011, or 0.8 percent hwne adjusted for inflation, according to the NRA's 2012 Restaurant Industry Forecast. New Federal Regulations for Employers with Tipped Employees
May 5, 2011 - The Department of Labor (DOL) will begin enforcing new regulations for employers with tipped employees. The new regulations address a number of areas under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) that particularly impact tip credit requirements for employers. The amended tip regulations pertain to three basic areas: (1) the ownership of tips; (2) tip-pooling arrangements; and (3) the required noticed employers must give to tipped employees for the employer to utilize the FLSA's tip credit provisions. The DOL's final rule regarding these amended regulations can be found here.
