V's Italiano Ristorante - Aired September 18th, 2025
A Long Standing Family-Owned Restaurant Is Bringing A Taste Of Italy to Kansas City. Listen In To Hear the Success Of One of the Legacy Restaurants In Kansas City.
We were honored to welcome Greg Hunsucker and Gregory Hunsucker to our show to celebrate one of Kansas City’s most beloved dining landmarks: V’s Italiano Ristorante. As second- and third-generation restaurateurs, Greg and Gregory have continued the legacy that began with the family matriarch, Vita “V” Hunsucker, who opened the doors more than six decades ago.
During the interview, they shared stories about growing up in the restaurant, learning the craft of authentic Italian cooking, and keeping their family’s traditions alive while adapting to the modern dining scene. Their commitment to quality, family, and hospitality remains at the heart of everything they do, from the recipes passed down through generations to the welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel like part of the family.
Beyond their work at V’s Italiano, both Greg and Gregory are deeply involved in the local restaurant community. Greg Hunsucker has served in leadership roles within the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association, including a term as President, where he helped advocate for the restaurant industry and supported local operators through mentorship and community programs. Gregory continues that spirit of engagement, representing the next generation of restaurateurs who are passionate about preserving Kansas City’s rich culinary culture.
Together, their dedication to both their family’s legacy and the broader restaurant community shows why V’s Italiano isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a Kansas City institution built on love, tradition, and service.
About V's Italiano Ristorante
The roots of V's Italiano Ristorante date back to 1963 when "V" (Vita) and Jay Totta decided to open the first "V's Café", consisting of a seven stool counter, three tables, and four booths, for a total seating capacity of 35 people. Utilizing family recipes rich in tradition, high quality standards, and the personal touch of "V" herself greeting customers, an ever expanding business was created.
In 1966, the Totta's acquired and remodeled a building that seemed massive at the time. It could accommodate 85 guests; nearly two and one-half times the original seating. However, that building was soon outgrown. "V" and her husband Jay, an architect, dreamed of someday being able to design and build their own building that would create an atmosphere of elegant, old world charm.
The dream became reality in 1972 when the present building was completed. The dining room comfortably accommodates 150 patrons in a relaxed atmosphere. The building also has a beautiful lounge and three private dining rooms available for groups of up to 135 guests. On the exterior of the building is a beautiful wood arbor with grape vines planted by V's father, Tony Barber. These vines are now carefully tended by the fourth generation, and can be viewed from the interior of the "Vista Vite" room. You may also enjoy a cocktail under the vines, while listening to the cascading waters of our beautiful stone waterfall in the intimate setting of our "Garden Patio".
"V", the entire Totta family, and staff are thankful to you, our many friends and loyal customers, who have provided over five decades of friendship and support. We trust our sincere efforts to provide you with a pleasant dining experience will merit your continued patronage.
